ISTANBUL (IQNA) – A huge rally was held in Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, on Sunday afternoon in protest at defiling the Holy Quran in Sweden.

People hold rally in Istanbul to condemn Quran desecration in Sweden

The protesters gathered in front of the Swedish Consulate in Istanbul, chanting slogans against the US and the Zionist regime and calling for an end to desecration of the Holy Quran.

They also demanded punishment for those behind such sacrilegious acts, Anadolu Agency reported.

Extremist elements backed by the Zionist regime have in recent week desecrated the Quran in Sweden and Denmark several times.

They did so with permission from the governments of the two European countries and under protection from police.

Sweden also previously allowed far-right Danish politician Rasmus Paludan to burn copies of the Quran.

Such moves have drawn anger and condemnation in the Muslim world, with many scholars and politicians calling on Muslim states to cut ties with Stockholm and Copenhagen and boycott Swedish and Danish products.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states are holding a meeting at the level of foreign ministers on Monday to discuss efforts and strategies to prevent desecration of Islamic sanctities.
